Mebane, NC

The City of Mebane is named after Brigadier General Alexander Mebane and can trace its start to 1809 when a post office was established in the area. The Town was incorporated in 1881 and officially became known as Mebane in 1883 (shorter than the previous Mebanesville). Mebane had a few large furniture and mattress manufacturers in the area during the late 1800s that fueled the early growth of the City. Mebane is known for its many great festivals throughout the year, including the Dogwood Festival. We enjoyed exploring Mebane and its great downtown area, which shows signs of new life with more and more restaurants and businesses occupying the historic downtown buildings.
