Statesville was established in 1789, shortly after the creation of Iredell County. Statesville is known for many things, such as Fort Dobbs and the truly amazing Carolina BalloonFest. What you may not know is that the City of Statesville undertook a project that widened its sidewalks as part of a larger streetscape improvement project that was completed in 2012. The result is one of the most walkable cities in North Carolina and an incredible downtown area that has many great shops and restaurants to visit. One interesting fact about Statesville is that it was the first city to provide electricity to its citizens in North Carolina.
