Blue Ridge Parkway – Rough Ridge - The Sociable Adventurer

Situated along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Rough Ridge is a hiker’s paradise that provides stunning views of the adjacent mountains and valleys. It’s a popular location for engagement proposals, fall foliage, sunrise hikes, and any other occasion requiring a picturesque setting. The trail to Rough Ridge is part of the longer Tanawha Trail, but the peak of Rough Ridge can be reached in less than a mile from Milepost 302.8 off the Blue Ridge Parkway, offering breathtaking views of Grandfather Mountain, the Linn Cove Viaduct and Linville Gorge.

As you ascend the steep and rocky trail, you’ll encounter a series of boardwalks that bring you to panoramic viewpoints of the surrounding landscape. For the more adventurous hikers, there’s even a cable to assist in ascending to the top of a massive boulder for an unparalleled photo opportunity.
