Summerfield, NC

The Summerfield area was settled in 1769 by Charles Bruce. During the Revolutionary War, Charles Bruce acted as a recruiter for the Continental Army, and there were a few minor fights in the area prior to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The area was known as Bruce’s Crossing during that time period and was changed to Summerfield in 1812. The Town was officially incorporated in 1996, and many of its historic buildings were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 (the town hall resides in one of the historic buildings). The Town is conveniently located just north of Greensboro.
