Alleghany County, NC

Alleghany County was formed in 1859, and because the Blue Ridge Mountains acted as somewhat of a barrier between the county and the rest of North Carolina, it was deemed one of NC’s lost provinces for much of its early history. The Blue Ridge Parkway was developed in the 1930s, making Alleghany County more accessible to the rest of North Carolina. The New River flows through Alleghany County, making it a great destination for anglers and other water enthusiasts. The average elevation in the County is 2,500 to 3,000 feet, making it a Blue Ridge Mountain community that can be enjoyed in all four seasons, including summer, when temperatures rarely exceed 90 degrees. Towns like Sparta have a lot to offer, making Alleghany County a great place to visit.
