Apex, NC

Apex, North Carolina, is located in Wake County and was founded in 1873. The town derives its name from being the highest point on the Chatham Railroad, earning it the nickname “Peak City.” Initially, it served as a small trading post for farmers, but it experienced significant growth with the arrival of the railroad. Apex’s historic downtown area, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, showcases its 19th-century heritage with well-preserved buildings, including the Apex Union Depot. The town originally thrived on agriculture and lumber before evolving into a suburban hub near Research Triangle Park. Today, visitors can explore the Halle Cultural Arts Center, which features local exhibits and performances, or enjoy outdoor activities at Jordan Lake, a great spot for boating and hiking.
