Bodie Island Lighthouse

Bodie Island Lighthouse, situated along the picturesque Outer Banks of North Carolina, stands as a historic beacon that has guided mariners since its completion in 1872. Rising majestically to a height of 156 feet, the lighthouse boasts a distinctive black and white striped exterior, making it a visually striking landmark against the coastal landscape. The current structure is actually the third iteration of the Bodie Island Lighthouse, as the previous two fell victim to erosion and structural issues. Visitors can climb the 200+ steps to the top for a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Steeped in maritime history, the Bodie Island Lighthouse continues to fulfill its role as both a navigational aid and a cherished symbol of the region’s rich maritime heritage.
