Mayodan is named for the two rivers that meet nearby, the May and Dan Rivers. It was founded in 1892 as a mill town. Textiles and manufacturing have played a major role in Mayodan’s history. However, it is now becoming a destination for outdoor recreation, with the aforementioned rivers, the Mayo River State Park, and many other opportunities to get outside. They have a small downtown area that has a couple of great restaurants and one of our favorite outfitter stores. If you like outdoor adventures, then Mayodan is a great town to explore.
