The Mendenhall Family settled in the Jamestown area in 1762 and continued to have an influence throughout the 19th Century. The Family owned the first grist and lumber mills in the area and played a significant role in early Guilford County politics. The Historic Jamestown Society has done an incredible job of maintaining and preserving the history of the Mendenhall Homeplace. The Society offers tours of the house and grounds. The grounds currently consist of multiple historic buildings that include barns and another historic home that was relocated to the site. Across the street is an old store. It is a great experience to walk around the beautiful grounds while taking in all of the history.
