The Town of Mooresville was incorporated in 1873 by John F. Moore. Over the years, many industries have called Mooresville home, including cotton mills, textiles, sawmills, a creamery, and a foundry. In 1959, the work on Lake Norman began, which made Mooresville a destination for those seeking to enjoy the lake. Mooresville has been given the nickname Race City USA due to being the home of many race teams and other racing institutions, including the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Mooresville also has the NC Auto Racing Walk of Fame in its downtown that honors the various inductees to the Hall of Fame.
