The Occaneechi Village Replica Site is located in Hillsborough and features a historic replica of an Occaneechi Village that would have existed along the Eno River in the early 1700s. The Occaneechi people had a difficult relationship with the European settlers and the North Carolina government once it was established. Many members of the Tribe moved away from the Village in the mid-1700s but migrated back to the Hillsborough area by the end of the 1700s and early 1800s. We found the Replica Site to be really well done, and our kids absolutely loved going inside the different structures on site to better understand what life would have been like in the early 1700s for the Occaneechi People.
