Troutman can trace its history back to the 1750s when immigrants from some of the northern colonies started to immigrate to North Carolina (primarily from Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania). The Town is named after John Jacob Troutman, who was a child during the period when the area was initially settled. Over the years of his life, he would become a prominent landowner in the area. The Town of Troutman became a stop on a rail line between Columbia (South Carolina) and Statesville during the 1800s, which helped to put the area on the map. In 1905, the Town of Troutman was officially incorporated by the NC General Assembly. Today, Troutman is best known for its proximity and access to Lake Norman and Lake Norman State Park.
