Blue Heron Trail – Greensboro, NC

The Blue Heron Trail in Greensboro, NC, is a serene pathway that winds through the natural beauty of the city, offering a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Located within the Greensboro Watershed Trails system, this trail is named after the majestic blue herons often seen along its route. It features a mix of shaded woodlands, wetlands, and scenic views of Lake Townsend, making it an ideal spot for hiking, birdwatching, and photography (keep an eye out for beavers on this trail as we saw a lot of evidence of beaver activity along Lake Townsend). There are also the remains of an old car towards the Yanceyville Road side of the trail, which is a cool spot to check out just off the trail. The trail is well-maintained and accessible to hikers of various skill levels, with clear signage and connections to other trails in the area. Its tranquil atmosphere and lush surroundings provide a perfect escape for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. This trail is a 7-mile out-and-back trail (total miles).
