Roaring Gap, NC

Roaring Gap, NC, sits on the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Alleghany County. Known for its cool breezes and wide views of the Yadkin Valley, it began in 1890 as a mountain retreat. The name comes from the sound of the wind “roaring” through the mountain passes. Today, Roaring Gap is a favorite spot for outdoor lovers and golfers, with three well-known clubs: Roaring Gap Club, with a Donald Ross-designed course; Olde Beau; and High Meadows. The area is also close to Stone Mountain State Park, where you can hike to a huge granite dome or visit the 19th-century Hutchinson Homestead.
