Chinqua-Penn Walking Trail

One of the hidden gems in Reidsville, NC, is the Chinqua-Penn Walking Trail. It is next to the iconic Chinqua-Penn Plantation. The trail was developed by the Penn family as sort of an oasis on the grounds of their estate. It features a little waterfall named Little Niagara (paying homage to Betsy Penn’s family connections to Niagara Falls, NY), a beautifully maintained trail, a stew site, where the Penns would produce a large quantity of their famous Brunswick stew, a pump house, a wonderfully constructed bridge over Lake Betsy that was once used to entertain guests, and a picnic area built by the Penn’s named the “Summer House” that overlooks Lake Betsy. It is a truly special place to visit. If you enjoy the history of the Reynolda House, The Duke Mansion, or The Penn House, you will love the rich history that this trail provides.
