Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail

The Occoneechee Speedway Trail might be one of the more unique/cool things to do in North Carolina. The Trail guides you to and around the one-mile oval Occoneechee (Orange) Speedway, which was a major part of NASCAR when it was active from 1948 to 1969. We visited the Speedway a few years ago shortly after watching Dale Jr.’s “Lost Speedways” episode on the track (Season 1, Episode 6). We visited it again more recently to get some better pictures of the Trail and track, and it really does take you back in time while letting your imagination run wild as to how electric the atmosphere must have been back when the track was active. The Trail is well-maintained and a popular destination for those seeking to exercise in a unique location as well as NASCAR enthusiasts.
