Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail

Once upon a time, in the quaint town of Hillsborough, North Carolina, there stood a legendary racetrack known as the Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail. This track, now a peaceful walking trail, was once a roaring hub of excitement, hosting NASCAR races and attracting racing legends like Richard Petty. Today, visitors can stroll along the same dirt track where cars once zoomed by, surrounded by the echoes of engines and the cheers of the crowd. It’s a place where history and nature intertwine, offering a unique glimpse into the past while providing a serene escape into the present. We visited the Speedway a few years ago for the first time shortly after watching Dale Jr.’s “Lost Speedways” episode on the track (Season 1, Episode 6).
