Ashe County Cheese

Ashe County Cheese was established in 1930 by the Kraft Corporation, which operated the plant until 1975. Since then, the facility has had several owners, but each has maintained a strong emphasis on quality. The current owners, who are from Wisconsin, have been running the cheese factory since 1994.

The local community of West Jefferson plays an important role in Ashe County Cheese, and visitors can watch the cheese-making process through a viewing room adjacent to the manufacturing facility. Across the street, there is a store that promotes not only the exceptional products from Ashe County Cheese but also other local goods.

The iconic cows nearby provide a fun experience for the entire family. You may even find Ashe County Cheese products in local grocery stores throughout North Carolina, so keep an eye out during your shopping trips. Our family is particularly fond of their cheese curds!
