Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore Estate sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina, and is the largest privately owned home in the United States. George Washington Vanderbilt II built this 250-room French Renaissance-style château between 1889 and 1895. Architect Richard Morris Hunt designed the house, and Frederick Law Olmsted, known as the father of American landscape architecture, created the grounds.

In 1930, Vanderbilt’s descendants opened Biltmore to the public to help preserve it and support local tourism during the Great Depression. Today, the estate is still owned by the Vanderbilt family and welcomes over a million visitors each year. Guests can explore its original art and antiques, visit America’s most popular winery, stroll through gardens, stay at a luxury hotel, and enjoy outdoor activities and seasonal events. The Biltmore is known for its rich history, beautiful mountain views, and timeless elegance.
