Kron House

Within the Morrow Mountain State Park in Stanly County, NC, is Dr. Fracis Kron’s Homestead. The Kron family was truly a remarkable group of individuals, starting with Dr. Kron. Dr. Kron was born in Prussia, lived in Paris for many years, and then immigrated to North Carolina in 1823. Dr. Kron taught French at Chapel Hill before going to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. He became the first doctor in Stanly County and had a medical office on his property, but much of his practice was making house calls throughout the countryside. Dr. Kron also had an interest in agriculture and horticulture. He had a greenhouse on site where he would grow more exotic fruits such as oranges and pineapples. He also grew many other vegetables and fruits on his farm, including developing vineyards. It is totally worth visiting Morrow Mountain State Park to see this amazing historic site and to sit in awe at what Dr. Kron was able to do during his lifetime.
