Lake Waccamaw State Park is located in the southeastern part of North Carolina, offering a tranquil and picturesque escape for nature enthusiasts and outdoor lovers. The park comprises Lake Waccamaw, a Carolina Bay Lake, one of the state’s largest natural freshwater lakes. It is known for its exceptional water quality and diverse ecosystems. Visitors can hike on the park’s trails, which wind through dense forests of pine and oak, and have a chance to spot an array of wildlife, such as deer, foxes, and alligators (we spotted quite a few in the nearby waterways surrounding the park). Fishing and boating are popular activities on the lake, known for its bass and sunfish. At the same time, kayaking and canoeing on the calm waters are excellent ways to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
