Pilot Mountain State Park

Pilot Mountain State Park opened in 1968, and it features one of the great wonders of North Carolina, the Big Pinnacle of Pilot Mountain. The history of Pilot Mountain can be traced back to the Saura Native American tribe, which called the mountain Jomeokee, which means Great Pilot. The Mountain has played a major role in the exploration and settlement of the region due to its distinctive features and shape. Today, the State Park features multiple access points and miles of trails to hike. The most popular access point is the Mountain Section, which features an amazing visitor center and a road to the top where you can view and hike around the Big Pinnacle. We definitely recommend hiking around the Big Pinnacle, as it provides great views of the surrounding area.
