Tory’s Den Cave & Waterfall

Tory’s Den Cave and Waterfall are within the Hanging Rock State Park. The trail is a .2-mile out-and-back trail, and outside of a little bit of an incline/descent, the trail is a pretty easy hike.

Tory’s Falls is a 200-foot waterfall that can be difficult to see, especially during a dry season. In a wet season, the fall can be quite beautiful and worth the effort to get to it. It is not that far from Tory’s Den, so it’s totally worth at least checking it out to see how much water is flowing over it.

Tory’s Den Cave is definitely worth the hike, as it is an extremely unique feature that is easily accessible. You can walk around the cave, which makes for a really cool experience. There is also a history associated with the cave that goes back to the American Revolution. The tradition holds that Tories were living in the cave after being forced out of their homes. The Tories then raided Colonel Jack Martin’s Rock House, and they kidnapped a woman, which prompted a rescue effort that resulted in the capture of most of the Tories.
