Martin Marietta Park – Dragonfly Trail

The Dragonfly Trail at Martin Marietta Park in New Bern, North Carolina, is a scenic 2.9-mile loop trail that winds through a former quarry transformed into a vibrant natural oasis. Named for the thousands of colorful dragonflies that flutter along its path, this easy, flat trail is ideal for hiking, biking, trail running, and birdwatching, offering stunning views of the park’s lakes, Spanish moss-draped trees, and the nearby Neuse River. With a gravel and sand surface, it’s accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, though some sandy patches may require careful navigation.

The trail features plenty of benches along the path for rest stops and is dog-friendly, with leashed pets welcome. While the trail lacks significant shade, making sunscreen a must on sunny days, its well-maintained paths and serene environment make it a favorite for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. This trail can easily be combined with the Island Pond Trail for a longer hike.
