Upstream along Widow’s Creek in Stone Mountain State Park, you’ll find the lesser-known Upper Widow’s Creek Falls. This peaceful, unnamed waterfall is different from the popular roadside falls that most people visit. Hikers who go farther along the Widow’s Creek Trail, or connect from the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, are treated to a more private waterfall experience. After a steep climb at the start, the trail flattens out and winds through a lush forest filled with rhododendrons and hardwoods, following the creek. The waterfall spills into a small, inviting pool, making it a great spot for quiet reflection or a cool swim away from the crowds.
The falls are near Campsite A on the Widow’s Creek Trail, about 1.5 miles from the backpack parking area. Please be considerate of the primitive campsite, especially if others are using it, by keeping noise down, staying on the marked paths, and not disturbing campers. Upper Widow’s Creek Falls is less known and more secluded than the falls downstream, offering a special sense of discovery for anyone looking for a quieter spot in the park.
