Bill’s Brewing Company

If you’re looking for a Wilmington brewery that combines genuinely good beer, a family story you can root for, and one of the most unique taproom setups you’ll find anywhere on the Carolina coast, Bill’s Brewing Company is the answer. Tucked just off Cinema Drive, Bill’s is a family-owned craft brewery that’s been part of Wilmington’s beer scene since 2016 — and it’s quietly become one of our regular stops. Be sure to check out the pictures below to get a feel for the place before you go — or to relive the visit after.

A Wilmington Family with Deep Roots

The Musser Family has been part of the Wilmington restaurant scene since the 1980s, best known for operating Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill and Volleyball Facility — a beloved local institution built around twelve sand volleyball courts, three on-site bars, and a full restaurant. In 2016, the family expanded into the brewing world with Bill’s Brewing Company, and in 2024, they connected the two operations with the addition of the brewery’s production facility and taproom, known as The Warehouse.

That family lineage shows. Bill’s feels less like a corporate brewery and more like a passion project — the kind of place where you can taste that the people pouring your beer actually care about what they’re making.

The Beer

Bill’s brews on a 15-barrel production system and turns out a wide-ranging lineup designed to have something for every kind of beer drinker — from first-timers to dedicated craft fans. The flagship list includes:

  • Wave Break IPA — the brewery’s signature American IPA, dry-hopped with Azacca, El Dorado, and Cashmere
  • Honey Drip Brown Ale — an English-style brown ale made with raw organic honey
  • Pillow Talk Pilsner — a Czech-style pilsner with a light, crisp finish
  • Beach King — a Mexican-style lager with a hint of lime and sea salt
  • Bill’s Light Lager — a clean, easy-drinking American light lager
  • Static Seltzer — a rotating fruited seltzer for the non-beer drinkers in your group

Beyond the flagships, Bill’s has a regular rotation of seasonals — including the fan-favorite Mungo Berry raspberry blonde ale, hazy IPAs, and collaboration brews with local businesses like Blue Cup Roastery, so even regulars find something new to try almost every visit.

More Than a Brewery

What really sets Bill’s apart is the experience. The Warehouse taproom is directly connected to Capt’n Bill’s — meaning when you visit, you’ve got access to a 40-foot bar, sixteen rotating taps, a massive 172-inch TV, a full food menu, signature cocktails, and twelve professionally lit sand volleyball courts right outside.

It’s the kind of place where you can grab a flight and watch a game on the giant screen, post up at the bar with friends, settle in for a casual meal, or wander outside to catch a pickup volleyball game with a cold one in hand. Few breweries anywhere give you this much to do in one stop.

Good to Know

  • Family- and group-friendly: Big space, lots of seating, multiple bars, and plenty for non-beer drinkers to enjoy too.
  • Outdoor experience: The volleyball courts are open to play and a fun place to spend an afternoon, especially in the warmer months.
  • Live entertainment: Sports on the big screens, games, and special events happen throughout the year.

A Wilmington Favorite

Bill’s Brewing Company is the kind of place where you go for one beer and end up staying for three. The beer is great, the space is genuinely fun, and the family-run, locally rooted feel of the place sets it apart from a lot of bigger breweries you’ll visit. If you’re putting together a Wilmington brewery day, this one earns its spot on the list.
