New River State park – Running Cedar Trail

The Running Cedar Trail at Wagoner Access in New River State Park, North Carolina, is a peaceful and easy hike along the scenic New River. This one-mile trail, marked with white blazes, leads through green forests on a wide, gentle path that’s great for moderate hikers. The trail is probably named for the running cedar plant, a low evergreen you might see nearby, especially on the Fern Nature Trail. It’s a nice addition to other short trails in the area, like the red-blazed Fern Nature Trail and the small Bluebird Spur.

You can link the Running Cedar Trail with the Fern Nature Trail to make a loop, so you don’t have to walk the same path twice. Hikers appreciate the quiet, the shade from the trees, and the easy access to picnic spots, group camping, and river views. It’s a great choice for a relaxing walk while enjoying this beautiful part of one of America’s oldest rivers.
