Stone Mountain State Park – Lower Falls

Lower Falls is a 20-foot sliding rock waterfall in Stone Mountain State Park. Unlike Stone Mountain Falls and Middle Falls, the area around the top of Lower Falls is especially scenic. The falls sit on Big Sand Creek and are accessible via the Middle Falls / Lower Falls Trail, which branches off the main Stone Mountain Loop Trail and leads to both Middle and Lower Falls.

Lower Falls is about a mile from the main loop, and the path is mostly gravel with some moderate hills. Hikers should expect to get their feet wet since there are two stream crossings along the way. Because these falls are fairly remote, you can enjoy the peaceful beauty of the lower Stone Mountain area with fewer crowds. Just remember to be careful, as the area is quite isolated.
