For an easy, family-friendly walk, the Summit Trail is the most accessible — a short gravel path that leads from the summit picnic area to the actual peak of Mount Jefferson. From there, the Rhododendron Trail branches off through rare old-growth forest, leading to Luther Rock and the Lost Province Trail — together making up the most popular ridge experience on the mountain.
For a real climb that earns the views, the Mountain Ridge Trail starts near the park office at the base of the mountain and ascends through hardwood forest to the upper ridges. It’s a great pick for hikers wanting a workout. The Spur Trail is a short, quiet half-mile connector between Sunset Overlook and the Mountain Ridge Trail — useful for extending a hike or finding a more secluded forest walk.
For peak bloom season on the Rhododendron Trail, plan to visit in late June and early July, when the rhododendron and mountain laurel form tunnels of pink and white along the path.
