Every holiday season, Christmas at Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, turns America’s largest private home into a festive Gilded Age wonderland. From early November to early January, the 250-room French Renaissance château and its 8,000-acre grounds shine with more than 100 decorated Christmas trees. Inside, you’ll find 36 trees, including a 35-foot Fraser fir in the Banquet Hall, covered with ornaments and gifts. The house is filled with miles of fresh evergreen garlands, about 45,000 twinkling lights, 442 candles, and plenty of poinsettias.
Candlelight Christmas Evenings create a magical atmosphere, with the house glowing by firelight and candlelight, live choral music in the halls, and the scent of wreaths and woodsmoke. Outside, the conservatory is full of orchids and model trains, while Antler Hill Village and Winery feature lit pathways and seasonal tastings. Many visitors look forward to raising a glass of Biltmore’s Christmas wine under the stars, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains—a tradition that combines Vanderbilt-era elegance with classic holiday warmth.
