The Story Walk Trail at Martin Marietta Park in New Bern, NC, is an engaging educational feature that combines literacy with outdoor activity, creating a delightful experience for families and children. This unique trail stretches approximately half a mile and showcases pages from a children’s book displayed along the path, allowing visitors to read a story as they walk.
Developed in collaboration with the Friends of the New Bern Public Library, the Story Walk encourages young readers to enjoy literature while exploring the park’s scenic beauty, which is located on a former quarry site along the Neuse River. The trail is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, enhancing the park’s family-friendly appeal and fostering a love for reading and nature. Additionally, the trail wraps around a pavilion and playground, making it a great place for families to enjoy their time together. This trail can easily be combined with the Explorer Trail for a longer hike.
