From the Leaksville Drive-In to a Rockingham County Institution

The Eden Drive-In opened in 1949, back when it was known as the Leaksville Drive-In — named for one of the three textile towns that would later merge into the city of Eden. When Leaksville, Spray, and Draper consolidated into Eden in 1967, the theater was renamed to match its new hometown and has been the Eden Drive-In ever since.

For a format that has vanished from most of the country, the Eden Drive-In has shown remarkable staying power. It closed for a stretch and reopened decades ago with upgraded projection and sound, converted to fully digital projection, and around 2020 added a second screen — giving it the “twin” setup that doubles your options on any given night. Today, it stands as one of the few drive-in theaters left anywhere in North Carolina, and one of the most beloved.
