Eden, NC offers a small but genuinely enjoyable food and drink scene for a day trip in Rockingham County — a mix of classic small-town comfort food, authentic Mexican treats, craft beer, and locally roasted coffee, much of it clustered in the historic uptown and Old Leaksville districts. For a city built by three textile towns, it offers more variety than you might expect when it comes to places to eat and drink.
The casual, old-school side of Eden is anchored by Dick’s Drive-In, a family-owned drive-in that’s been serving hot dogs, homemade barbecue, and plate lunches on Washington Street since 1963. For something sweeter, Camila’s Bakery & More brings authentic Mexican baked goods, 28 flavors of hand-dipped Mexican ice cream, and — more recently — Mexican food to Kingsway Plaza, in a family-friendly space with games and plenty of seating.
On the drinks side, Reynolds Brewery is Eden’s first microbrewery, pouring craft beer brewed on site and firing wood-oven pizza inside the restored Fieldcrest Mills Water Works building along the Dan River. And for coffee, The Roasted Bean is a locally owned coffee shop in Old Leaksville that serves handcrafted espresso, smoothies, frozen lemonades, and fresh-baked goods.
