Reynolds Brewery

Reynolds Brewery is a family-owned craft brewery and wood-fired pizza brewpub in Eden, NC — the city’s first microbrewery, set in the beautifully restored former Fieldcrest Mills Water Works building along the Dan River. Founded in 2019 by Eden transplants Chip and Toni Reynolds, it’s a spacious, family-friendly spot where craft beer brewed on site is served alongside pizza fired in an oven imported from Italy.

The space is a big part of the appeal. Between the taproom, the craft kitchen, the private event room, the stage for live music, and the large outdoor deck, there’s room to spread out and settle in — and the whole thing occupies a piece of Eden’s textile history reborn as a gathering place. We’ve been a couple of times and enjoyed the space and the beer on every visit.

From a Homebrewer’s Dream to Eden’s First Microbrewery

Reynolds Brewery is the realization of a decades-long dream. Owner Chip Reynolds had been homebrewing since the 1990s and had wanted to open his own brewery for some 25 years. He and his wife Toni moved to Eden in 2000 and came to consider the city their hometown — so when the time finally came, brewing in this community was exactly the point. “This is what I wanted to do, was to brew here in this community,” Chip told a local news station when the brewery opened.

The couple found their location in the former Fieldcrest Mills Water Works building on West Meadow Road, built in 1937 and sitting right along the Dan River. It was a fitting choice: Fieldcrest was the textile empire that anchored Eden for generations, and the waterworks building tied the new brewery directly into that heritage. The restoration was no small task — the building had water vats set into the floors and a huge hole in the backyard, which Chip and Toni filled with dozens of truckloads of dirt to create the outdoor space where live music and events are now held.

Reynolds Brewery, LLC was founded in 2019, and the full brewpub with its restaurant opened in 2021 as Eden’s first microbrewery. The restored building now houses a brewing facility, a taproom, a craft kitchen, a private event space with its own bar, and a large outdoor deck — a genuine showplace built from a piece of the city’s industrial past.

The Beer, the Pizza, and the Space

The beer is brewed on location, and the original lineup leaned into local geography and history with names any Eden local would recognize: Caspian White, River Dan Red, River Smith Stout, Draper White House IPA, and Ford’s Island Porter. The Caspian quickly became a local favorite, and the rotating selection of specialty craft beers gives the taproom plenty to explore. Wine is available too, for anyone in the group who isn’t drinking beer.

On the food side, the centerpiece is a wood-fired pizza oven brought in from Italy, with a local culinary creative putting together inventive pizzas and hors d’oeuvres, plus wings and other items, and Sunday brunch. We haven’t had the pizza yet ourselves — it’s on our list for next time — but it comes highly recommended, and the oven from Italy is a serious statement of intent for a small-town brewpub.

The space rounds it all out. Reynolds is deliberately family-friendly: kids are welcome, there are games to keep them busy, hand-built tables fill the taproom, and a stage hosts live music while the brewery promotes local artists. There’s a private room for parties or corporate gatherings (space for 25 to 30), a full outdoor deck, and a general lack of late-night rowdiness — the Reynoldses set out to make a place the whole community could enjoy, and that’s what it is.

An Eden Highlight

There’s something fitting about Eden’s first microbrewery being born from the bones of a Fieldcrest textile building. Chip and Toni Reynolds took the old 1937 Water Works — vats in the floor, a crater in the backyard — and turned it into a showplace along the Dan River, tying the city’s industrial past to its present in the most enjoyable way possible. For a homebrewer who waited 25 years to open his own place, it’s a dream more than realized.

The beer is the reason to come, and the local names are half the fun — order the Caspian White that regulars swear by, or work through the River Dan Red, the River Smith Stout, and the rest of a lineup that reads like a map of Eden. Then settle into the space, which is built for exactly that: hand-built tables, a stage, games for the kids, and a big deck out back.

We still owe ourselves a visit for the wood-fired pizza — it’s the one thing we haven’t tried, and by all accounts we’re missing out — but the beer and the atmosphere alone have made every visit worth it. For a night out in Eden, or a relaxed afternoon with the family, Reynolds is one of the easiest recommendations in Rockingham County.
