Choosing Your Apex Food and Beverage Stop

For traditional German-style ales and lagers in a Triangle craft beer scene otherwise dominated by American IPAs, Southern Peak Brewery is the anchor stop. Founded in 2016 in the Villages of Apex, Southern Peak operates a seven-barrel brewhouse producing traditional German-style ales and lagers — a genuinely distinctive brewing approach in a broader NC craft beer market that leans heavily on hop-forward American styles. Signature offerings include the Midnight Conductor, and the taproom pairs its brewing traditions with regular food trucks, dog-friendly seating, and rotating community events.

For historic adaptive reuse and one of NC’s most family-friendly breweries, TapStation is a genuinely singular experience. Opened in 2022 in the historic Holt & Sons service station — the two-story venue preserves the building’s automotive heritage through nostalgic decor while adding a rooftop patio with fire pit, an on-site playground, and a full craft beer program. TapStation pours 23 rotating craft beers brewed on-site or from sister brewery Mason Jar Lager Co. — and its playground makes it one of the genuinely most family-friendly breweries anywhere in NC.
