Downtown Raleigh anchors the scene with a dense cluster of restaurants, cafés, breweries, and taprooms clustered around Fayetteville Street, Glenwood South, the Warehouse District, and Moore Square.
The city’s craft beer culture is genuinely notable, with well over a dozen active breweries and taprooms spread across downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. Standout venues include Brewery Bhavana — a genuinely singular downtown spot combining Belgian-inspired brewing with dim sum, a bookstore, and a flower shop under one roof — alongside Raleigh Brewing Company (the first female-owned brewery in North Carolina, founded by Kristie Nystedt in 2010), and a growing lineup of neighborhood taprooms, kitchen-and-brewery hybrids, and cider houses. Beyond craft beer, Raleigh’s dining scene spans traditional NC barbecue (with institutions like Clyde Cooper’s Barbecue, an NC BBQ institution operating since 1938), authentic Irish pub culture, farm-to-table restaurants, and one of the most active coffee shop scenes in the region.
