    The drivable overlooks at Mount Jefferson State Natural Area give visitors easy access to some of the best views in the North Carolina mountains. Along the way, several pull-offs let you see the layered ridgelines, the quiet valleys near West Jefferson, and the impressive rise of the mountain.

    1. Sunrise Overlook

    🌄 Sunrise Overlook is the first scenic stop along Mount Jefferson State Natural Area’s ridgeline drive.

    🌅 Early mornings offer beautiful valley views lit by pink, orange, and gold hues at dawn.

    🏞️ The overlook’s views are lovely but less expansive than those at Jefferson or Sunset Overlooks.

    🤫 Sunrise Overlook is typically the quietest and most peaceful of the three stops.


    2. Sunset Overlook

    🌄 It’s one of the first wide viewpoints on the way to the summit, offering a sweeping west-facing view.

    🗻 You can see the South Fork New River Valley and the distant Amphibolite Range, which are especially beautiful at sunset.

    3. Jefferson Overlook
