Located behind the historic Caswell County Courthouse in Yanceyville’s Historic District, the Caswell Community Arboretum is a hidden gem that has transformed a once-overgrown dumping ground into a vibrant sanctuary for native plants and wildlife.
Since its establishment in 2004, the Caswell Horticulture Club, along with dedicated volunteers, has cultivated this two-acre haven, emphasizing biodiversity through features such as a butterfly garden, an evergreen grove, and a young pine forest. A serene half-mile paved trail meanders past the restored Poteat Schoolhouse and the old Caswell County Jail, inviting visitors to explore both history and nature.
Benches are placed throughout the arboretum for quiet reflection, and a rustic shelter provides shade, creating a peaceful retreat for songbirds, butterflies, deer, and anyone seeking a moment of tranquility in North Carolina’s heartland. Open year-round, the arboretum stands as a testament to community spirit and environmental stewardship.
