Caswell County Historic Jail & Old Poteat School House

The Historic Caswell County Jail building is located just behind the Caswell County Courthouse. The exact construction date is unknown, but it is estimated that the Jail was built in the late 1800s and was operational until the 1970s. A portion of the building was used for prisoners, while the rest was for the jailer and his family. Visitors can tour by appointment only.

Within walking distance of the Jail is the Poteat One-Room School House, which was built in 1913. Although its first school term began in 1913, it is estimated that it closed in the 1920s as schools began consolidating and transportation by motor increased. The School House has been restored, and visitors can tour by appointment only.
