There are about 3 miles of hiking trails across Big Horse Creek from the Lansing Creeper Trail Park. These include the Daniel and Benjamin Karb Mountain Bike Trail and the Fred and Alice Stanback Walking Trail.
The bike trail winds up the mountain to a ridge with great views of Big Horse Creek, the Lansing Creeper Trail Park, and downtown Lansing, especially in winter. While you can hike this trail, we don’t recommend biking it because there are lots of thorny plants sticking out, which makes it hard to get through in places. We almost made it to the end, but had to turn back since we lost track of the trail. The trail forms a loop and connects with the walking trail to complete it.
The walking trail is about a mile long and runs alongside Big Horse Creek. It’s mostly flat and easy, perfect if you want something different from the paved paths across the creek. You can get some of the best views from this trail without much effort.
The trail system starts at a bridge near the Lansing Fire Department. You can also drive across a nearby vehicle bridge to reach the trailhead. From there, walk toward the picnic shelter, and you’ll see signs showing where the trails go just past the shelter.
