Planning Your Hike

For an easy, family-friendly walk, the Historic Lansing Walking Trail runs through downtown Lansing past remnants of the old Virginia Creeper rail line and a colorful mural of historic Lansing — a great quick stop. For a longer but still relaxed walk, the Lansing Creeper Trail Park – Paved Loop circles the heart of the Lansing Creeper Trail Park along Big Horse Creek, with creekside views, mountain vistas, the historic Creeper Trail Station, and a one-of-a-kind log playground along the way.

If you’re looking for a more challenging outing, the Lansing Creeper Trail Park – Hiking Trails (across the creek from the main park) include the Karb Mountain Bike Trail, with significant elevation gain to a ridgeline view, and the gentler Fred and Alice Stanback Walking Trail, which runs along Big Horse Creek. The Karb trail is technically a mountain bike trail, but overgrown brush makes it a better fit for hiking right now.
