North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame

The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame is a remarkable destination located on the third floor of the North Carolina Museum of History in downtown Raleigh. Established in 1963 by visionaries Jack Wood and Lloyd Caudle from Charlotte, the Hall of Fame received support from the NC General Assembly for a more permanent exhibit. The current 4,000-square-foot space opened in 1992 and honors over 420 inductees, including legendary athletes, coaches, and sports journalists such as Michael Jordan, Dale Earnhardt, and Kay Yow.

The museum features interactive displays, sports trivia quizzes, and a variety of memorabilia, including James Worthy’s LA Lakers jersey and Coach K’s warm-up jacket. It encapsulates the essence of North Carolina’s sporting achievements across basketball, football, baseball, and more. If you have a passion for sports history, this free admission exhibit offers an inspiring journey through the stories of the state’s greatest competitors. New inductees are celebrated each spring at a grand ceremony.
