Jordan Lake State Recreation Area – Old Oak Trail

The Old Oak Trail at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in North Carolina is a scenic, family-friendly 1-mile loop located at the Ebenezer Church Access, right between Apex, NC, and Pittsboro, NC. Starting from the Area A parking lot near picnic shelter #8, this easy trail winds through mature hardwood forests, offering glimpses of Jordan Lake’s 14,000-acre reservoir and passing by an old farm pond. Well-maintained and clearly marked, it’s perfect for hiking, walking, or birdwatching, with opportunities to spot bald eagles, a common sight in the area. Ideal for a quick nature escape, the trail provides a peaceful retreat amidst the park’s diverse recreational offerings, including boating, camping, and swimming. There are two other features of this trail – first, there is a shortcut path if you’re looking for an even quicker hike; and second, there is also a connector path if you want to extend your hike over to Ebenezer Church Trail.
