Carolina Beach State Park – Swamp Trail

The Swamp Trail at Carolina Beach State Park is an easy 0.75-mile trail where hikers can see some of the park’s unique wetland ecosystems up close. It is quieter and less crowded than other trails, offering a peaceful walk through a special part of coastal North Carolina.

Trail Highlights

The trail goes through a tidal cypress-gum swamp and a brackish marsh, where hikers can see moss hanging from trees, calm waters, and the low-country scenery that is typical of this area. Its quiet atmosphere makes it a good place to slow down and enjoy nature.

Access and Connections

The Swamp Trail connects to different parts of the Sugarloaf Trail at both ends, so you can use it for a loop hike or as a shortcut between sections of the main trail. You can also reach it from the Flytrap Trail, which gives you more options when planning your hike.

Group Camping Areas

The park has two Group Camping Areas along the Swamp Trail, offering a more rustic and private camping experience for groups. The quiet and hidden location of the trail makes it a good choice for group camping.

The Swamp Trail combines unique ecosystems, easy walking, and easy access to other trails. It is a short but enjoyable hike that shows a different side of Carolina Beach State Park.
