Camila’s Bakery & More

Camila’s Bakery & More is a Mexican bakery, dessert shop, ice cream parlor, and — more recently — authentic Mexican restaurant, all under one roof in Kingsway Plaza in Eden, NC. Opened in April 2023, it’s a family-friendly spot where nearly everything is made fresh on location, from cakes and churros to hand-dipped Mexican ice cream in flavors you won’t find at a typical shop.

The “& More” does a lot of work here. Alongside the pastry case, Camila’s serves authentic Mexican food, pours fresh fruit- and milk-based drinks you’d find south of the border, and keeps a playful, welcoming space inside — complete with games and a lounge area — that makes it as much a hangout as a bakery.

Be sure to check out the pictures below to get a feel for Camila’s Bakery & More before you go — or to relive the visit after.

A Bakery, an Ice Cream Shop, and a Mexican Kitchen

Camila’s opened in April 2023 and quickly became one of Eden’s more distinctive food stops, precisely because it refuses to be just one thing. At its heart, it’s a from-scratch bakery: cakes sold by the slice or whole, cupcakes, pastries, cookies, doughnuts, churros, and other special desserts, all freshly made on-site. Special orders are available for wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and other occasions, and there’s a full case of Mexican treats and candies alongside the standard bakery fare.

The ice cream deserves its own mention. Camila’s serves 28 flavors of hand-dipped, homemade authentic Mexican ice cream, plus 24 flavors of ice cream bars on a stick — a lineup deep enough and unusual enough to reward stepping outside your usual order. There’s cotton candy and a large selection of packaged snacks too, and for drinks, you can get the fresh fruit juices and milk-based aguas frescas served the way they are in Mexico.

More recently, Camila’s added authentic Mexican food to the operation, turning the bakery into a genuine one-stop shop where you can grab a meal and dessert in the same visit. Between the sweets, ice cream, drinks, and food, it covers a lot of ground for a single storefront.

A Family-Friendly Hangout

Part of what sets Camila’s apart is the atmosphere. Rather than a grab-and-go counter, it’s set up as a place to stay a while — a bright, clean, colorful space with plenty of seating, a lounge area with a big TV, and games like foosball and air hockey to keep kids (and grown-ups) entertained. It’s the kind of spot where a quick stop for a churro can turn into an hour of hanging out, which is exactly what the owners seem to have intended.

The space is dog-friendly and has validated parking, and the family-run hospitality comes through in the details — from custom smash cakes for first birthdays to the staff’s willingness to walk you through the more adventurous ice cream and candy options. For families especially, it’s an easy and genuinely fun place to land.

An Eden Highlight

Camila’s Bakery & More is the rare place that manages to be a bakery, an ice cream shop, a candy store, a drink stop, and a Mexican restaurant without any one of them feeling like an afterthought. That range is the whole appeal — you can walk in for a churro and walk out having also planned a birthday cake, tried a mango chamoy, and discovered an ice cream flavor you’ve never heard of.

The ice cream is the first thing to explore. With 28 hand-dipped flavors of authentic Mexican ice cream, plus two dozen more on a stick, it’s an invitation to order something outside your comfort zone — and the fresh aguas frescas make a perfect pairing on a warm Eden afternoon. Save room for the bakery case, where the from-scratch cakes and pastries are the reason plenty of locals keep coming back.

But the atmosphere is what makes it stick. The games, the seating, the big TV, the bright and welcoming space — Camila’s is built to be lingered in, not rushed through. For families working their way through Eden, it’s one of the easiest and most enjoyable stops in town, and a sweet finish to any day spent exploring Rockingham County’s largest city.
